Blueberries can reverse aging and restore your memory

Would you be interested in a "magic pill" that could prevent and reverse age-related problems, such as forgetfulness? So would I! And, here it is.

Blueberries are LOADED with antioxidants
Besides being delicious in pies and muffins, blueberries are also one of the richest sources of antioxidants among fruits and vegetables. The antioxidants in blueberries are particularly adept at delaying AND reversing aging, including the markers associated with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases.

Eating blueberries will give you the good memory you had decades ago
In an interesting and history-making research study, scientists discovered that young rats eating a regular diet compared to old rats eating 2% of their diet in blueberries for four months performed about the same in memory tests for object recognition. The control group of aged rats eating a regular diet did no better than chance on the tests. Eating blueberries gave old rats the memory power similar to young rats!

If Alzheimer's runs in your family, blueberries may prevent it in YOU!
Every time you're forgetful, you probably think you're one step closer to Alzheimer's disease because your aunt had it or one of your parents has it. While some families are genetically predisposed to this degenerative and irreversible disease, there may be a way to prevent it from striking you.

Scientists at Tufts University have discovered that "it may be possible to overcome genetic predispositions to Alzheimer's disease through diet." They found that blueberries "reversed the deleterious effects of aging on motor behavior and neuronal signaling in senescent rodents." In plain English, that means eating blueberries interferes with the process that allows Alzheimer's to take hold in your brain.

Eat blueberries any way you like them
While most fruits and vegetables are more potent and retain more nutrients when they're fresh, blueberries don't. Australian researchers at the Food Science and Technology School at the University of New South Wales found that you'll get about the same amount of anthocyanins (which houses the potent antioxidants) whether you eat fresh, dried or frozen blueberries.

You can take blueberry supplements, but I don't know why you'd want to. Blueberries have always been my favorite food. When they're in season, I eat them raw and in quantities that might be considered addictive. When they're out of season, bags of frozen and boxes of dehydrated blueberries are great snacks. For the record, you'll need to eat at least half a cup a day to get any protective effects.
